When I was born, the doctors predicted I would have a short life and never be healthy. An uncle brought a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy to my mother. She read it, with the result that my physical problems disappeared. For the more than eighty years since then, not even once have I spent a day in bed because of illness.
A few years ago my husband passed on; I was living alone out in the country and needed to be closer to other people. My husband and I had accumulated savings sufficient for acquiring a home in a retirement facility.
But a friend, a contractor, offered what seemed like a better solution. He and his family had a small house in a family neighborhood. He told me that by using my funds he could enlarge their house and add a "granny apartment" that I could live in. I would, in effect, be purchasing a life estate in what would be my retirement home.
