Happy New Year!
A New Year's Eve party often combines a sentimental looking back at last year's achievements with an expectancy of what the new year will bring. For some, the future appears ripe to harvest—college just about completed, a recent marriage, a promotion—but for others it may look bleak.
If we look at the future as an opportunity to learn more of the nature of God as all good, and to see good expressed to a greater degree in our lives, we'll welcome new experiences. God is already giving us all good. An increased recognition of this spiritual fact brings new opportunities that reveal God's goodness already at hand.
With God, who is infinite Mind and Spirit, there are no limitations, no final days, dead ends, or closed doors. His will for each of us is good. Perceiving God aright and following His direction bring progress and spiritual growth. Science and Health describes the growth that results from spiritual perception: "As mortals gain more correct views of God and man, multitudinous objects of creation, which before were invisible, will become visible. When we realize that Life is Spirit, never in nor of matter, this understanding will expand into self-completeness, finding all in God, good, and needing no other consciousness" (p. 264).
