While serving in the military, I experienced a severe sunburn

While serving in the military, I experienced a severe sunburn. When my prayers didn't correct the situation, I telephoned a Christian Science chaplain who immediately began treating me through prayer. This occurred on a Sunday evening. Right after the telephone call, I went outside the barracks building where I was living to talk with friends who were admiring the beautiful sunset. As we quietly talked, all pain left, and I could move comfortably and freely. In a few days the redness also disappeared, and later new skin formed. This healing made a tremendous impression on me as proof of the effectiveness of Christian Science treatment.

My military duties required me to have vaccinations. After one vaccination, my arm ached all evening and I felt nauseated. I again telephoned the chaplain. About half an hour later, all pain and nausea left. My health was restored.

While an enlisted man in Alaska, I received a small salary. Trying to augment it, I made an unfortunate business investment and one year later found myself without the funds to pay for travel to a meeting of my Christian Science Students Association meeting. And my ordinary leave was considered the lowest priority for the few seats available for a "hop," or free ride, on a military aircraft.
