TO OUR READERS

Today, the Bible is available in more translations than ever—from refined English to street language. And yet, it still remains something of a closed book for many people. In her day, Mary Baker Eddy, who founded this magazine, also struggled with the feeling that the Bible's healing message was often obscured by a lack of inspiration in the way it was read and translated.

For many years she labored to produce a book that would unlock the spiritual meaning of the Scriptures. As many of our readers know, that book is Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. And in this week's focus, authors speak about this book and how the spiritual lessons it teaches have brought both inspiration and healing.

Also in this issue: "Grief dissolved with love" deals with the passing of a parent. "Lifted above the flood" makes clear that when prayer shapes our days, even a severe rain and flood cannot keep us from doing what we need to do. "Penniless, I watched God supply our need" speaks about God's care when the breadwinner in a family was unemployed. And "Prayer for good government" offers thoughts about how to pray, regardless of whether your favorite candidate is elected.
