CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SENTINEL

1898—A Hundred Years of Watching and Holding Guard—1998

Ninety years ago, the Christian Science Sentinel was about to begin its second decade serving a growing, deep-thinking readership. The Sentinel at that time was a 9½-by-13-inch broadsheet, with a look similar to newspapers of the day. The "newspaper" appearance was common for weekly publication, and people everywhere were used to reading broadsheets. The Sentinel's subject matter was certainly diverse—readers received general news items from around the world along with metaphysical contributions both from the editors and other authors.

For example, here is an excerpt from a March issue of 1911. It's the opening of an article by Martha Harris Bogue called "Undisturbed":
