On a campout last summer, I began to have some internal trouble. After nine days of no bowel movement, I got scared. I thought of purchasing a laxative, but as I walked to the camp store, I passed a telephone. I stopped and thought quietly, realizing I had a choice. I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner to ask for treatment.

Although the practitioner didn't know me very well, and didn't know of my whereabouts, she was completely prepared for my call, so quickly did she reply. She quoted a line from a hymn in the Christian Science Hymnal: "Thy kingdom, God, within / Shows forth Love's sweet control" (No. 221). After this call there was some relief, so I continued calling daily.

In one of my phone conversations from the campground, the practitioner spoke of the two words freshness and sunshine. They are in an article in Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy, where she asks, "Are we feeling the vernal freshness and sunshine of enlightened faith?" (p. 343). The practitioner mentioned that she had been studying these two words and using a dictionary to uncover further synonyms of the words.
