Enjoy the ride!
To me, in one sense life is a lot like traveling down that river. The course of the river is already determined, and I'm going along for the ride. My ride can be pleasant or horrible, depending on my cooperation or resistance, but the ride goes on!
In truth, the ride we're on is determined by God because we are created by Him. It may seem that we're self-determining entities, but in truth our source is God, Spirit. The source being Spirit, the outcome must be spiritual and the will must be God's. As we read in Isaiah, "Thus saith the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters; ... This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise" (Isa. 43:16, 21).
Since God, good, has created the pathway, not only must the definition be good and wholly peaceful, but every part of the trip can be, too. Just as I had to trust the water to take me safely down the slide, we can trust God to keep us cushioned from harm along life's way, no matter how churned up the water or how twisty the path. To avoid the rocks and trenches, we must listen to and live by God's direction. His love is holding us up, cherishing us, at all times. We can feel this by turning to Him every moment.
