I have always enjoyed outdoor activities

I have always enjoyed outdoor activities. In my teens I enjoyed gymnastics and began a daily running program. I enjoyed the freedom physical activity brought to me. After finding Christian Science I began to understand the dominion and freedom we have over limited mortal beliefs about the body and how to assert this dominion when participating in physical activities. These joyful activities are opportunities to reflect God and to challenge, on the spot, aggressive, fearful suggestions.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures Mary Baker Eddy says: "Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man" (p. 393). In the following experiences I made full use of this statement.

My favorite sport is soccer. I was an assistant soccer coach for middle schoolers. During one of our practices a ball that was kicked full force hit me in the eye. For an instant I felt stunned, but I immediately took possession of my body, and told the student who had kicked the ball that I was not hurt. He was upset that he had hit me, and I reassured him that I was fine. The pain instantly disappeared, and I quietly thanked God. Later that evening I discovered that my contact lens was badly torn but there was no other evidence of the incident.
