What was true of man "in the beginning" is true now
A Few years ago, I was helping in a Bible study evening at a juvenile detention facility. It appeared to be a very unloving place, in which just about everyone was expressing hate, mistrust, and prejudice. Even though my own study of the Bible had taught me that God's creation is entirely loving, good, and spiritual, that evening the opposite view seemed absolutely accurate to me.
In my study group of about ten inmates, one of the young men inadvertently angered a gang leader. For the rest of the session, other inmates were telling him how he was going to "get it" later. The atmosphere was tense and cruel. When the study session ended, the young man stayed behind and began crying uncontrollably, pleading for my help. At first I felt there was nothing I could do.
But I began to realize I was being tempted to accept that God could create a mean-spirited man. I reached out totally to God for His help to see the real, spiritual man right there. Even though nothing had changed, a great peace and calmness came over me. This was the effect of spiritual sense revealing divine Love's control. Spiritual sense showed me that what the Bible says of man as God's likeness is always true and that I would witness the proof that man is God's likeness.
