More and more thinkers these days are exploring the mental nature of life, spirituality, and healing. This period is, in a sense, not unlike the close of the last century when numerous books and lectures on spiritual and mental science attempted to break through the conventional wisdom of the time. Now, as then, the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, provides specific Christian guidance on how to pick out the right road and to avoid the detours.

In the two articles that follow, the writers explore some of the concepts that are presently at the forefront of religious, philosophical, and medical thought. People are thinking deeply about "the mind-body connection" and its impact on healing. There is also widespread interest in the many aspects of New Age thought, which range from Eastern religious traditions through aromatherapy and other forms of nonmedical healing. Indeed, although the Church of Christ, Scientist, was established in the last century, Christian Science is sometime mistakenly identified as a New Age religion. It is actually the law of God, and its teachings are deeply based in the original Christianity that Jesus practiced.

The articles "in focus" bring out the relevance of that original Christianity to these vital issues of spirituality and healing, while also explaining the unique role of Christian Science and its reaffirmation of Christ Jesus' teachings and example.
