"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear:...

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love" (I John 4:18). This Bible verse was familiar to me from my earliest attendance in the Christian Science Sunday School. Years later, though, I acquired a deeper and more spiritual understanding of the verse as a result of this healing.

One day while working in my kitchen, I bumped a small growth that had been on my finger for some time. The growth began to bleed, but I went about my work paying little attention to the finger. Two mornings later when I woke I was very frightened because the finger was badly swollen. I was concerned about what appeared to be a serious infection. But I immediately challenged this fear by saying to myself: "I'm grateful that today is Sunday. I'm going to church, and surely something that I hear in the service will heal me."

The Lesson-Sermon for that Sunday was on "Love." I walked into church with a wide-open mind, listening to and applying every word spoken or sung. Everything said plainly to me, "You have to love." At the end of the Bible Lesson I said to myself, "All right, but how do I go about this?"
