Pool rules, God's rules

Ever since she was a baby, Lydia loved going to the pool to swim. One day when she and her mommy were going to swim, she asked what the rules of the pool were. Her mommy read from a big sign that said: "No running. No food in the pool area. No shorts or cutoffs. Shower before swimming." Lydia liked to know the rules so she would be sure to do the right things.

At Sunday School and at home with her mommy and daddy, Lydia was learning God's rules, which Christ Jesus taught and Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, explained in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. All of God's rules are based on the wonderful fact that man is the perfect image and likeness of a perfect, loving God. God is our heavenly Father and Mother, and He cares for each of us at every moment.

One rule the Bible teaches is called the Golden Rule (see Luke 6:31). This rule reminds us to treat other people the way we want them to treat us. There are lots of other rules in the Bible, and even though most of them do not have special names, they are important. When we obey them, they help us to be happy and safe, and they can even help us when we need healing.
