One morning I inadvertently slammed my side into my heavy antique dining room table with such force that I knocked all the wind out of me. Silently, I cried, "God, help me!" I managed to crawl to a chair, pull myself up, and call a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer.

Because movement caused intense pain, I was taken to a Christian Science care facility. The loving care I received there, the uplifting atmosphere, and the opportunity to pray and study without distraction contributed much to my healing.

At first I couldn't do very much for myself. Little by little, though, as my understanding of the allness of God and the nothingness of matter increased, the limitations lessened. God knows nothing about accidents, so the more we know of God and the harmony He gives His creation, the less we are subject to discords. I prayed to feel my oneness with the one Mind, God, and to leave the mortal belief that I had ever fallen. God's goodness is all that is going on, all that is taking place, all that exists, here and everywhere, now and always, in painless harmony. As I prayed, I glimpsed that because man is—because I am—the image and likeness of God, man can never fall, but is, in truth, always perfect, pure, and free.
