At one time, I was a hostess for a restaurant

At one time, I was a hostess for a restaurant. On weekends I was scheduled to work with a particular young man for the busy evening hours. The first day working with him was a disaster. He wanted to do things his way, and I wanted to manage things the way I was accustomed to doing them. Everything seemed to fall apart!

Later that week, I realized that just dreading our next shift together wasn't very helpful. Instead, I began to acknowledge this man as the child of God. Through prayer I realized the need to be more humble myself. Pride, ego, and human will rose to the surface of my thought to be swept away. As my own thought came into line with God, I felt uplifted and purified.

A week later, however, when I was to work with this young man again, I was still afraid there might be a confrontation. I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked for her support through prayer to alleviate my concerns. During our talk, I mentioned the difficulty I was having in communicating with the man. She reassured me by referring to a passage in Science and Health where Mrs. Eddy speaks of true communication. She says, "The intercommunication is always from God to His idea, man" (p. 284).
