"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessing" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. vii). How comforting it is to know this every morning when we wake up! The study of Christian Science, and the practice of what we learn through spiritual understanding gained, free us from the false beliefs of inharmony, be it physical, emotional, financial, professional, or relationship-oriented. Sometimes this freedom seems slow to appear, but it can come immediately, and is definitive, total, and irreversible.
I recall a healing of my two-year-old son. Every night, since he was a newborn, I had prayed aloud with him and sung him a hymn, usually Mrs. Eddy's hymn "Mother's Evening Prayer" (see Christian Science Hymnal, No. 207). On this particular night the child had been asleep for some time when he woke up crying. I went to his room and discovered he had a fever. Since I study daily, in the Christian Science Bible Lessons, that God only causes good, I began my prayer by affirming this truth. I remembered from reading Geneses that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (1:31). As I thought along these lines, it became clear to me that I must overcome my fear. Then the following verse from another of Mrs. Eddy's hymns came to thought:
