Early in 1994 I had a healing of an apparently severe case of kidney stones, purely through relying on Christian Science. After the initial attack of the illness, which came suddenly one midnight, I immediately phoned a Christian Science practioner, to help me rise in prayer to the mental altitude where I could see and feel my spiritual identity—to understand that God had created me in His image and likeness, as the Bible makes clear. The practitioner began to pray for me immediately, and continued until the complete healing took place four days later.

I believe this healing was brought about, not by human effort, but largely through the clear spiritual understanding of the practitioner. I was in such pain I could not keep my thoughts focused on the truth of my spiritual perfection and wholeness—facts crucial to the healing.

Much of the time I was close to being unconscious, and longed to gain relief from the suffering, even to the point of simply passing on. I was determined, however, to stay with prayer alone to bring about a healing, as I had experienced and witnessed many healings through prayer alone.
