What would I do without Christian Science? How many times...
What would I do without Christian Science? How many times over the years that question has come to my thought. With every prayer in divine metaphysics there is a perfect solution to every problem, without exception. I have long been convinced of this, through reading the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
Not only have I experienced many healings of a physical nature, but the overcoming of a volatile temper was an early milestone in my spiritual growth. Anger would sweep down on me without warning, like a tornado. Terrible feelings of guilt and shame would follow my outbursts. Then the fear of the next attack would begin to build.
One day I went to a Christian Science practitioner in tears. Her calmness and love were truly comforting. She asked me to read the chapter "Animal Magnetism Unmasked" from Science and Health each day. Here I read: "As named in Christian Science, animal magnetism or hypnotism is the specific term for error, or mortal mind. It is the false belief that mind is in matter, and is both evil and good; that evil is as real as good and more powerful. This belief has not one quality of Truth" (p. 103). This statement helped me to see that error has no truth to it. On the fourth day of my reading, I realized that the fear of more anger was gone. I continued my study, and never had a return of that dreaded state.
