Wake up! Wake up!
Have I been thoughtlessly so long sleeping—
Losing the bright, sparkling, first love and joy,
Resting on laurels long grown dim,
A figure of apathy, ardency thin?
Have I grown stolid through words without love—
Forgetting God's humbling, beneficent grace,
Closing my door to healing and Life-impelled action,
Letting in negligent self-satisfaction?
Shake off apathy of boredom and gloom,
Self-satisfaction, pity, and lack,
And realize the absolute joy of our Lord,
Whose example was obedience, living the Word.
Be reactivated with life in response to "I am,"
Whose only-ness wraps us round with His love.
Tend garden of thought with alert, constant action,
Look outward and upward with deep satisfaction.
Wake up! Wake up! The longing world's needs
Are calling me ever and onward to bless;
The lesson is joy, the service is love,
Alertness to duty—the heavenly dove.
Listening eagerly, I learn Love's lesson clearly:
All apathy wanes and happiness rises
As I live God's law and it surely renews me.
Thus, progress and healing are all there can be.
