God didn't say so!

When we realize that only God has authority over us, we discover we're not obligated to be sick! I came to understand this better when my husband and I were asked to help fill in for the baby sitter for a week while our daughter and son-in-law worked.

Hannah was two years old at the time, and her sister Emily was three months. We had fun reading lots of books, taking long walks, and playing Hannah's favorite game, "Simon says," over and over and over again. The rules of the game are that everyone must listen for the commands of "Simon" and then obey. Hannah tried not to be "caught," but when I reminded Hannah that she had moved even though "Simon did not say so" and she was "out," she always giggled and begged to play again.

When it was time for us to leave, I was not feeling well, and I went to lie down for a while. It wasn't long before there was a soft tap on the door and a sweet voice quietly asked for admittance. It was Hannah. She brushed my brow with her little hand as I sometimes do to her when I put her to bed, and she said emphatically, "Simon didn't say so!" I quickly understood what she meant and told her that she was right, and I said, "God didn't say so." I kissed her and she left.
