My daughter had a nagging cough for a couple of nights that kept the whole family awake. (During the day she was fine.) I was praying about this—to no avail, it seemed. Then I reached out to God and asked Him what I should do.

The question came, "What do other people do when they need help and healing?" The answer came, that many turn to ministers or pastors for help, and that I could, too. This was a momentous thought to me. I knew I didn't have to set up an appointment with the Christian Science pastor; I knew my pastor wasn't too busy, and that I didn't have to wait until tomorrow. This pastor was with me, in the house, ready to guide me to a healing solution as I turned to it. This pastor is the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which are the Christian Science Church's only preachers.

I got my Bible and sat by my daughter's bed. I prayed for God to guide me, and opened at random to this passage from Psalms: "Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good" (85:12). I talked about this passage with my daughter. We knew that this was God's promise to us, and that God always keeps His promise. We talked about how people say, "Have a good day," or "Good morning," or Good night." We knew it was impossible to have anything but a good night, because God's goodness is continuous day and night. This guidance was answered prayer. And that was the end of the problem; she was healed of the cough, and we praised God. Truly, "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword" (Heb. 4:12).
