A suitable place
No room in the inn—
where wine flowed free
to slake the thirst
of a motley crowd...
No room in the inn—
with its noise and stir,
strangers staring
and jostling...
No room in the inn—
where old wives' tales
might disturb the virgin
mother-to-be.
But, a sheltering stable,
a caring spouse,
gentle beasts,
and a brilliant star—
Oh, God's love had prepared
a suitable place
for the girl who would bear
the hallowed form,
As angels proclaimed
with song on song,
the promise fulfilled.
The Saviour born!
