Increasing our faith in God
Many of us have wondered at times if we have the kind of faith in God that will enable us to trust Him totally for the solution to life's most difficult problems. How do we develop the certainty that God is all we need anytime, anywhere?
One day I observed a scene at the beach that helped me see how we can learn to trust. A father and his small daughter ventured into the ocean when the waves were quite high. Riding securely on her daddy's shoulders, she trusted him to hold her above the waves, even though each wave enveloped the father completely. She trusted her dad because she knew him well. She knew he loved her, was strong, and was caring for her.
This made me realize that as children of God we can trust our heavenly Father. A Bible passage from Deuteronomy reads, "The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders" (33:12). We can ride above any threat without fear, just as the child did, knowing God is divine wisdom, leading and guiding us; divine Love, always protecting, maintaining, and caring for us; divine Spirit, strengthening us. This understanding gives us greater faith.
