Shortly after the birth of our daughter, she became ill with a cold that grew worse. We were living in another country at the time.
A neighbor came to visit us and felt so concerned that she asked her husband, a doctor, to go and see us when he arrived home that evening. He told me that the baby had pneumonia, and very lovingly recommended how I could best care for her at home; he knew we were Christian Scientists, and respected this.
After he left I felt nearly overwhelmed with fear. My husband was out of the country at the time. I felt very much alone and distressed. I knew I had a choice at that moment, and that much depended on what I decided. I could either let the fear immobilize me, or I could be stirred to pray effectively and actually stand for what I knew to be true from my study of Christian Science.
