Immune from poison
We hear so much in the news today about pollution in a variety of forms. We're told that our water supplies are polluted, our meats contaminated, and our fruits and vegetables tainted from overuse of insecticides. We are frequently told that we are consumers of poison.
A number of years ago I was teaching in a community college. We had brand-new buildings situated in the midst of a gorgeous forested area. Our environment couldn't have been more ideal as we glanced out the windows into natural beauty and loveliness.
Then, suddenly, the entire campus became infested with poisonous spiders. Faculty, staff, and students were taken to the hospital to be treated for spider bites. Although the entire area was thoroughly sprayed with insecticide, many spiders still remained.
