The media, and sharing the Bible
This week the Sentinel looks at balance in the news media, and the distribution of Bibles to Russia and China.
The Sentinel talked recently with the first chairman of the Advisory Council of the International Communications Forum, William Porter, who was visiting Boston from his home in Le Touquet, France.
His career has been steeped in journalism and publishing, and he is quick to identify some of the challenges facing the media. "We have in a sense betrayed what we should be doing," he says, "to provide the truth, even the inspiration, to help society behave in a way that would produce happiness and a lot of other things that are missing in our present world. "Nobody would say there's not a lot of very good material published and produced," says Mr. Porter, "but something went wrong, a problem has been created. Did we in the media have a part in doing that? If we did, we can also have a part in healing it...."
