I was raised in a family that practiced Christian Science, and I don't remember any other form of healing. There were many instantaneous healings, and also healings that took longer.

My father had been allowed to attend a Christian Science Sunday School after two aunts were healed of paralysis and pneumonia. He introduced my mother to the religion, but the teachings were so different from what she knew that she found it difficult to accept, until I was brought back to life after apparently passing on at a time of sudden illness.

This took place on Thanksgiving day, and my mother knew she could not reach her doctor. One of the other relatives dialed a practitioner, as my mother was so shaken she could not do it herself. My father carried me in his arms, declaring, "God is her Life!" while other relatives went behind him saying, "She's gone." Within twenty minutes of the time the practitioner began treating me through Christian Science, I was waving goodbye to the relatives; though my eyes were crossed for about two hours, I was completely well. (The practitioner had always gone to visit family on Thanksgiving, but had been impelled to stay at home this particular day. All day she had studied references to Life in the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's writings. She was ready when the call came.)
