I would like to share several healings that have been significant in my life. One, which I had through my own prayers, was of warts on my feet. I was about seven years old at the time, and my father, who wasn't a Christian Scientist, said if the warts weren't gone in a week he would take me to a doctor. Within that time the condition improved so much that I was allowed to continue working it out through prayer alone. In a very short time I was completely healed, and able to resume swimming at our local YMCA. In my prayer I had thought about "the scientific statement of being," which starts out, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter" (Science and Health, p. 468). I have had many healings just by working to understand this passage from the Christian Science textbook.

Years later I had a severe skin condition on my feet. I prayed with the help of a Christian Science practitioner for some time, but it didn't improve. I remember sitting one day, talking to God and telling Him I knew He had made me perfect and complete; I wasn't going to allow myself to be impressed with the appearance of disease. I knew this wasn't God's plan for me. The next time I looked at my feet, I saw that the condition had changed drastically for the better. After that, the full healing came quickly.

When one of our boys was very young, he had frequent fevers. They usually would be healed quickly through our prayers. However, one time in addition to a fever he was quite ill, and after a few days of prayer his condition had not improved. He was a very active child, so to see him just sit listlessly was very disturbing.
