Christian initiative in society

Many people would like to help humanity deal with social ills, but have little faith in social programs or perhaps feel the problems are overwhelming. Also, many feel isolated from those needing help and don't see any practical course of action as workable or possible.

Christ Jesus, however, was not overwhelmed by life around him, nor was he ever truly distant or isolated from people. The Master was a doer, an activist of the most effective sort! As a healer, a teacher, and a preacher, he shook up society. Yet his means of accomplishment were not secular. Jesus lived a relationship to society that came out of his closeness to God. Jesus was not naive. He confronted evil directly; but he understood how to heal and restore and uplift human life through spiritual means. He healed a violent man and an embezzler and multitudes of people who were physically ill.

Although society attempted to corral his teaching, control it, and destroy it, he successfully carried on his divine mission. He had a conviction of God's power as being far greater than all human problems and a conviction of our ability to overcome them through an understanding of God.
