The endeavor to follow the teachings of Christian Science...

The endeavor to follow the teachings of Christian Science has resulted in many healings for me. These have come about over a period of many years. The most recent was that of a severely sprained ankle sustained in a fall on a staircase.

Although I heard a loud cracking sound in my foot, I declared immediately, "Man is unfallen, upright, pure, and free." Those words came to my thought from a sentence in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health: "Through discernment of the spiritual opposite of materiality, even the way through Christ, Truth, man will reopen with the key of divine Science the gates of Paradise which human beliefs have closed, and will find himself unfallen, upright, pure, and free ...." I then picked up the basket of clothes I had been carrying and went into the laundry room, fully expecting immediate healing.

However, as the day progressed the ankle became very swollen and painful, and I was deeply disappointed. As the condition worsened, I prayed for more faith and began to search my thinking to determine how my thoughts could be more spiritual. I soon realized I had been resentful about an incident that had occurred earlier that morning, and had been mulling it over as I approached the staircase.
