How we can help the world
Though there is plenty to fix in our world, solutions are within the reach of prayer.
Original in Spanish
The place where I work demands the greater part of my time. People who know me often ask if I don't become bored with being there. What is certain is that no one needs to feel bored if he occupies thought constructively. Although you may be preparing lunch, painting a picture, or simply having a good time, you can pray for the world that surrounds you. Prayer doesn't have to be a lot of words; it can be simply a more spiritual way of thinking. One way to pray is to let our approach to seeing things be guided by God, Truth. Instead of going along with traditional assumptions about our world, we can listen to what Truth imparts to us. Mrs. Eddy explains in Science and Health, "The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence."
At times it is difficult to change deeply rooted ideas and thoughts. But the Bible is the perfect teacher. There we find accounts of dramatic healings for a world that is currently so skeptical. The Bible tells of special moments, such as the multiplication of the bread and fishes which fed a multitude. Christ Jesus' feeding of thousands of people was, without doubt, proof that God takes care of the needs of each individual. Our divine Father-Mother loves us and protects us daily from want and sorrow. He guides our children's footsteps. Our prayer for the world is the affirmation that no one is outside of God's care. God didn't make a mortal creation, susceptible to evil. God's man is spiritual. God created life and the universe to manifest His abundance, and not to be overburdened with fears and conflicts. As the beginning of the Bible tells us, He commanded and it was done, and He saw that all He had made was very good, perfect, without blemish or mistake. We all have prayer—that spiritual weapon, powerful in Christ—which impels us to think correctly, which gives us new joys, which renews us and brings peace. It is the influence of Christ in our consciousness that assures us that man is the spiritual reflection of his creator, God. We can count on God in every situation because He isn't a material person but rather divine Spirit, who embraces all and is All. "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble," we read in Psalms. He gives us power to improve our thought about the world in which we live; and thus, recognizing that nothing is impossible to God, we soon see the manifestation of our more spiritualized thought expressed in good works.
