A fundamental truth of Christian Science teaching and...
A fundamental truth of Christian Science teaching and healing is that God is ever present. Thus, only His manifestation of good is real. The spiritual facts about God and man steadied and supported our family during our daughter's two-year battle with alcoholism. I always knew, even on the darkest days of tumult and unhappiness, that we were going to witness healing, and that this experience could benefit others when shared as a testimony. As a matter of fact, the only way I feel I can begin to express my gratitude for this healing is to share it.
This kind of problem is something we were surprised to find in our family. We thought we had a stable household with two attentive parents at home, loving grandparents nearby, generations of Christian Scientists on both sides of the family, a good neighborhood, and good schools. It was difficult at first for us to acknowledge how serious the problem was.
Our daughter had always been a joyous, responsible, and loving child, as well as an excellent student. During her sophomore year in high school, everything in her life turned upside down. She started drinking heavily, smoking, lying, skipping school, and failing courses. Because of excessive weight gain, she underwent a dramatic change in appearance. She wanted nothing to do with her family, and her only communications to us were frequent remarks like "I hate you!"
