Watch with us
You may have noticed some design and format changes in the Sentinel over the past few months. When a reader, contributor, or staff member suggests a way to improve the magazine, we're all ears! Publishing the periodicals is a collaborative effort, and we love to see them improve in every way possible.
The most substantial improvement we can make in the Sentinel, though, has nothing to do with layout or graphics. It has to do with watching. Watching is this magazine's primary purpose. On the cover of each issue are Christ Jesus' words "What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch." All of us need to be better watchers.
Watching, in Christian Science, signifies the need to guard our thinking against any suggestion that would make us believe we are less than the pure and indestructible man that God made. It's never casual guard duty to watch for harmful, deceptive suggestions endeavoring to get our attention, suggestions that would dupe us into thinking of ourselves or others as cut off from God—as frail, fearful, or cruel mortals. Still, there's more to an effective watch, the kind of watch that Jesus taught and practiced, than simply detecting error and sin. There's also watching for Christ, Truth; and maintaining a clear perception of the truth that destroys sin and error.
