The prayer "Thy will be done"

Probably nothing is more lonely than when you are ill and your bed seems to be the whole world. At such times, who doesn't long to be free of the bother, the pain, the fear? Sometimes help and hope feel far away, yet with God both are near at hand.

Many pray to God each day "Thy will be done." But this should not be interpreted as a prayer of resignation. Accepting God's will brings us under the authority of His law and the jurisdiction of divine Love. People hold many misconceptions about the will of God, but it can be affirmed that His will isn't uncertain or mysterious. God does not cause sickness, suffering, or evil of any kind. His law destroys them. God's will is the actual power of God for good. It is expressed only as goodness and through goodness. As we recognize the nature of His will, we are naturally brought under the influence of the perpetual healing law of Love.

When someone feels unwell, the evening hours can seem particularly long. How reassuring to know that God never sleeps. His will, or law, is ever operative. We are not neglected. Turning to God in prayer, we discover that divine Love is active, maintaining all in accordance with His will. Holding in thought God's unceasing government of man, we can experience the healing activity of Love. The power of God is not curtailed by the setting of the sun. Christ, Truth, destroys the false images of disease in thought through its perpetual revealing of the spiritual fact of man's eternal likeness to his Maker. The consciousness of man's likeness to God brings the action and condition of the body into accord with God's law of harmony and order. God produces health and gives us rest as we awake to the spiritual facts of being, which Christ, Truth, reveals to us.
