Anyone who is a parent can appreciate the need to heal...
Anyone who is a parent can appreciate the need to heal the awful fear that tries to control us when something happens to our children.
At the age of twelve, our son Thomas was injured in a water sports accident while he was the guest of family friends. As the father was preparing to take our son to the emergency room of the nearest hospital, the boy kept insisting that he be taken home. He was so persistent in this request that the man finally agreed to stop at my office on his way to the hospital to inform me what had happened.
When walking to the car to see our son, I felt calm despite our friend's urging that we rush to the emergency room. I was thinking of two statements by Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, ..." and "Always begin your treatment by allaying the fear of patients." These words from Isaiah were also comforting: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God."
