Some years ago, I was accompanying my husband on a business trip. We stopped in southern Illinois to see an artificial lake much like a huge football stadium, the banks of which are covered with oak trees. I elected to stay with the car, but when my husband was gone an unusually long time, I decided to go down to the shore to see what was keeping him.

I started down some wide earthen steps. About a third of the way down, I heard a peculiar whirring noise and then saw a coiled rattlesnake. Its head was so close that it was almost touching my right hand.

The following verse from Genesis came to me clearly: "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." I knew that God had given me dominion over this situation, and that I must use it.
