One day a friend of mine (who is also a Christian Scientist)...
One day a friend of mine (who is also a Christian Scientist) and I went for a walk along the banks of the Elbe. Suddenly I slipped and fell down hard on my left side, hitting my head. I was dazed for some time. When I came to myself my first thought was this: "In God's perfect, spiritual kingdom this hasn't happened."
My friend had immediately affirmed the truth of God's loving care of His child, and after a short while I was able to continue walking. Since my arm was hanging limply by my side and it wasn't possible for me to drive my car home, a young man offered to take us home. I politely declined medical assistance. The whole time I affirmed that God is present, God is powerful; nothing can separate me from Him.
When I got home, I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked him for help through prayer. My fingers and wrist were injured, and my arm appeared to be broken in more than one place. I told the practitioner that I wanted to rely exclusively on God for healing. The practitioner spoke reassuringly to me of the perfection and wholeness of God's spiritual idea, man—my true nature. He referred me to appropriate passages in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal were also comforting and helpful to me, including this verse from one of them:
