INSIDE: LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE

The Democratic (July 13) and the Republican (August 17) National Conventions in the United States this summer are focusing prime-time attention not only on political personalities but on some of the most significant issues facing society today. These are not just national issues but global concerns as well. In this week's Sentinel, the article "Under God's care" discusses the way one of these issues—unemployment—can be addressed through prayer and listening for God's direction. The "willingness to follow divine direction may be the most demanding thing we have ever attempted, but if we are patient and persistent, the rewards are great," writes the author.

Yes, like the writer, we may have found that holding on to the inspiration we've gained through prayer can be demanding. Yet the healing truth of God's word is permanent, and we can rely on it to bring real and lasting changes to our lives.

To begin to find solutions for the kinds of issues our world is facing today—economic problems, hunger, lack of education, homelessness, hatred, to name a few —calls for dedicated prayer, seeking God's guidance. And it also takes consent—consent to an idea, consent to embrace the reality of God's creation, which includes man as divine Love's image and likeness. This truth has staying power; it has healing power.
