Our family's first healing in Christian Science was a wonderment to us. My brother had an impacted wisdom tooth, causing him much pain and swelling of the jaw. We called a friend of the family, a Christian Science practitioner, for help through prayer. How, we wondered, could a person living some distance from us, effect a healing?

The second evening after we had called the practitioner my brother went to the bathroom to inspect his jaw. He came out in great excitement, exclaiming, "See how God works!" It had drained naturally, and the healing was soon complete. Thus we learned of the power of prayer in this Science of divine Mind.

Several years later, while I was playing football, I received a severe blow on the knee that produced an ailment known as water on the knee. Not only was there pain but considerable swelling. It appeared that I would be missing part of the basketball season and my favorite sport. I asked a practitioner for prayerful help.
