I was in the annex (a gym in my school that has four swinging ropes, two trapezes, and a very thin carpet over concrete). It was five minutes before school ended. Beth, my teacher, gave us free time for the rest of school. I was on one of the trapezes. I was hanging upside down, gripping the bar with my hands with my feet pointing straight up.
Then as I was getting ready to get off, I lost my grip and fell off headfirst onto the floor. I got up thinking, "I'm all right." But in a minute or two I was crying with an awful headache.
That night, when I was trying to get to sleep, I had trouble lying down in a way that my neck wouldn't hurt. Every time I thought I had found a comfortable position, I would feel a shock of pain that made me jerk my head up.
