Finding real love in your life
He'd been at her side almost fifty years. They'd had children, grandchildren, lots of fun, spiritual steps forward (and occasionally backward!), crises, and even spats. But underneath, they both felt, was "true love" at its best.
Then, without much warning, he was gone. After his passing, family and friends brought her unforgettable comfort—notes, phone calls, social invitations. Her grandson came to spend the summer. In a few weeks she could be composed in public. But inside, she was desolate—even after a year.
As a Christian, this woman (who's a dear friend of mine) knew her husband was safe—that his life was forever, because God is forever. In fact, God was her husband's Life. She accepted without question the Bible's promise: "The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Nothing, she knew, could change that.
