I began dating in high school

It seemed that I would either try to impress someone I wanted to like me or I would mentally "write off" a fellow I'd determined wasn't "the" one. Then there were times when I wondered if marriage was the right goal anyway. Many members of my family had been divorced and remarried—and not always happily. Also, statistics about marriages ending in divorce were disheartening.
