On the day before the opening of my new place of business...

On the day before the opening of my new place of business, I was busily preparing for my guests. We had sent out hundreds of invitations. After many long hours, my sister and I went out for a quick supper. As I closed the car door, it hit my leg, leaving an ugly little gouge which started to bleed. I dismissed it with a tissue and the thought that I hadn't time for it, and went into the restaurant to plan our work for the rest of the evening.

While I was eating supper, the pain increased, and still I tried to ignore it, making a few halfhearted efforts to pray about it. When the time came to leave, I found that I could not put any weight on my foot without excruciating pain. My sister and a waiter had to help me to the car. Finishing my work was now out of the question. My sister took me home and helped me into bed. She returned to the shop, and I called a Christian Science practitioner to help me pray.

I could not even stand to have a sheet touch my foot, and the swelling and discoloration of my entire leg began to be alarming. I had to pray to know that accident and injury are not part of God's true creation. I had called the practitioner several times when I realized that I must meet this error alone with God. I knew the practitioner's prayers would help me to do this.
