One of the most meaningful experiences of my life occurred...
One of the most meaningful experiences of my life occurred over forty years ago. It was at a time when I was reaching out wholeheartedly to God for help. I loved my home and family, but I felt something was lacking—I wasn't at peace. I felt unfulfilled and I seemed to lack inspiration and joy as well.
One particular day these feelings all seemed to hit me at the same time. They were very intense and oppressive. I remember crying out to God, "You have to help me. I can't go on like this." Then I heard these words. "Go get 'the little book.'" And I knew exactly what book I should get.
I recall running up a flight of stairs and going to a drawer where I had keepsakes, among which was this book. I picked it up and held it for a minute, almost in awe. This book had come into our home twelve years earlier as a gift. I hadn't paid much attention to it. Now I was truly curious. I noticed the title more carefully: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive—I didn't know what to expect—but I began reading the book just the same. When I read the first sentence, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," I immediately felt comforted and full of joyous anticipation. There was such love and assurance. I knew I had found the answer to what I had been reaching out for. From then on, my life had a new direction.
