Morality. Spirituality. What do the two have in common?
About a year after I took up the study of Christian Science, I had an experience that really taught me something about how spiritual reality is translated in our lives. A quantity of camera equipment of mine was stolen, and as I was majoring in photography in college, the loss was critical.
With great conviction, I set to work to solve the problem in the way Christian Science was showing me. I remember how I studied the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy to gain inspiration, which came in wonderful bursts of insight. I then prayed earnestly with these new spiritual ideas, fully expecting their power to fix the situation and restore my belongings to me. Much to my surprise, nothing happened.
This was a great mystery to me. Wasn't I doing all the things I was supposed to do? Hadn't I been getting wonderfully inspiring insights from my study and applying them in prayer? Yes, I had; but there was a missing link, and it was some time before what it was became obvious.
