What children have to give
A young friend of mine told me that he had been brought up as a Christian Scientist and that he had always had healings and protection when he turned to God and prayed. For instance, he said his family was living in Mexico City at the time of the 1985 earthquake. When the quake shook their home, he turned to God and felt the reality of His powerful presence and love. This young boy was so convinced of God's protection that he sang hymns to his family until the tremors ceased. He said this helped them all to stay calm, and they were all safe.
It was natural for this boy to want to become a member of The Mother Church, the Church that Mary Baker Eddy founded to reestablish the laws and practice of scientific Christian healing. He joined as early as possible, at the age of twelve.
Children today are faced at an ever earlier age with adult questions that need thoughtful and healing answeres. They ask about war and peace, marriage and divorce, and about helping with the environment. They long for a sense of security. Perhaps most of all they want to know about their own unique identity and their place and purpose in life.
