Two years ago I had a healing of defective vision for which I am deeply grateful.
While I was working on a graduate degree some years earlier, I began wearing glasses. I wore them until a few years later, when they fell out of my shirt pocket and were swept away in the swift current of a mountain stream. I decided not to replace them and soon did not even miss them.
However, in the spring and summer of 1988, my vision worsened. Around that time several business associates who are about my age began complaining of vision difficulties associated with "middle age." They each had eye examinations and subsequently began to wear glasses. I was experiencing the same symptoms that they described.
