Getting ready for school
This time of year has a certain familiar feeling to it. Buying new shoes. (Summer has worn out the old ones.) Getting notebooks and supplies. (What do we need?) And, of course, there's a lot of wondering and anticipation.
Students, parents, teachers, may have different perspectives and roles. But when it comes right down to it, the wonderings and concerns are pretty similar: Is it going to be a good year? Will things go well academically? Will everyone have good friends and fit in?
In the midst of all our outward preparation for school, maybe we should step back a minute and think about getting ready in the way that makes the biggest difference. Maybe take some quiet time get quite clear about who we really are. Because who we are isn't just how we look in the mirror—an image in certain clothes or hairstyle. What's most important for each of us, no matter what our age, is knowing that we are God's spiritual child, His expression.
