When I first joined The Mother Church and one of its branches, I did so in appreciation for all that they had so freely offered me. I also recognized that if church services and Sunday School, Christian Science Reading Rooms, Christian Science practitioners, lectures, and the periodicals were to be available to seekers for Truth everywhere, shoulders had to be put to the wheel; and mine should be one of them. Over the years I have felt that the benefits to me through church work have outweighed my contributions.

A very kind landlady introduced me to Christian Science many years ago. I was about to be taken to the hospital. I had been tentatively diagnosed as having appendicitis, and an immediate operation was projected. The pain had been recurring with ever greater frequency and severity over a period of several years. My landlady told me about Christian Science. I called a practitioner for help through prayer, and the condition was promptly and permanently healed. I never went to the hospital that day, and I became a student of Christian Science.

Among the many healings I have had since then, I'd like to mention those of infection, flu, persistent winter coughs, neuralgia (from which I had suffered for about fifteen years), almost constant headaches, and grief. Some of these healings came about through my own prayer and study, some with the help of practitioners.
