Lambs whom some wolves might wish they'd never met
When Christ Jesus sent his disciples out to heal, he said he was sending them out "as sheep in the midst of wolves."
Obviously, Jesus was telling his followers they needed to stay awake. But could he have been telling the disciples, "I send you out as weak and unprotected spiritual innocents in a harsh world that contends belief in God is hopelessly impractical, so there is reason to be afraid"?
Not if we read and grasp the whole of Jesus' message. According to the Saviour, his "sheep," if they are obedient, always have the faithful protection of God's own shepherding. In one of his parables the Master tells of how even one lost sheep is pursued until found.
