It is with deep gratitude to God that I wish to tell of a healing I had in Christian Science. Because of this demonstration of God's love for me I am a Christian Scientist today.
In 1986, when I was playing Rugby football, I was rushed to a large clinic (where my father works as a doctor) in the capital city of Zaire [Kinshasa] because of pains in my chest. The doctor who examined me declared in my father's presence that I had a weak heart and had only several days to live. When I heard this verdict I cried, believing I was going to die.
Each morning a woman came to comfort me. At first I didn't understand her comments very well, but because of her visits my sadness was forgotten, giving way to joy. I left the clinic much improved. Back at home I missed this woman, and I was obsessed by thoughts of death. I kept to myself and would see neither family nor friends. A month after leaving the hospital I had a relapse. Material means were unable to heal me. According to the doctor, all I could do was wait for death.
